Financial Support

If you're facing unexpected or higher than expected funeral expenses
And reside in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, you may qualify for a Funeral Expenses Payment, also known as Funeral Payment. This financial support, provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), aims to assist with some of the costs associated with arranging a funeral for those receiving certain benefits.
Funeral Expenses Payment helps cover expenses
It's important to note that while Funeral Expenses Payment helps cover expenses such as burial or cremation fees, travel to the funeral, death certificates, and transportation of the body, it may not cover all costs entirely. Eligibility criteria apply, and applicants typically need to contribute towards the funeral expenses themselves.
To claim Funeral Expenses Payment, first ensure you meet the eligibility requirements. Depending on where you reside:
- In England or Wales, you can apply by phone through the Bereavement Service Helpline or download a form from the GOV.UK website for postal applications.
- Specific contact details for phone applications are provided for Welsh language, textphone, and British Sign Language Video Relay Service users.
Crowdfunding through platforms like JustGiving offers another avenue for financial assistance. This method involves receiving donations from friends, family, and the community, which collectively can significantly alleviate funeral costs.
